I am editing a video in iMovie on my Mac. I have the audio being output through a Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 interface to some monitors (the Scarlett is set as the Mac's Output device). Some sections use synced voice-overs from audio clips, and some use voice-overs baked in to the video clips.

When I edit a section where there is an audio clip and video clip playing together, but I've muted the video's audio, the voice-over plays fine. However, when I play a video clip where the voice-over is part of the video's audio, I am hearing the voice-over twice, once immediately and once delayed by a few milliseconds. It is like recording in a DAW and you have direct monitoring and the DAW's internal monitoring both on at the same time.

There is only one Software (DAW) Playback channel in Focusrite Control. iMovie has no audio settings in the preferences so I am not sure how to troubleshoot this. Anyone know how to fix this problem and if there are programs to monitor all of the interal Core Audio feeds?

I am using a MacBook Pro 13" running Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7.
