What are some common types of objective measurements that I could probably find when I'm shopping for a USB audio capture and mic preamp device?

Total harmonic distortion? Signal to noise ratio? What are the most common objective measurements that can really give me an idea of how good the captured audio can be, given that I'll be recording things that I can't do twice?
